(post by Visit Glendale staffer Heather) My family asks me every year, “Do you have any New Year’s Resolutions?”  My response is generally, “I think I should probably work out more.” Can you relate to this? If so, here are some great ways to spend time with family and friends while working out and having fun doing it! frac-weight-lifting-exercise The Foothills Recreation and Aquatic Center (FRAC, for short) or Rio Vista Recreation Center are the perfect places to test the waters of your fitness journey. Take a comprehensive tour of the facilities with the friendly staff and remember to ask all questions you want. The amenities consist of the fitness center, work wall, racquetball courts, indoor walk/jog track, and a list of free classes that come with your pass. fitness-westgate If you are looking to be part of a group and have friends and family motivate you during your work out, try out the “Fitness in the District” classes held by Westgate Entertainment District. These completely free classes are held every Tuesday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. through February 28. After building up your endurance at FRAC and Westgate, try out a race in your local community.  There are races galore in our beautiful state, and many local ones, with lots of different paces, mileages and comfort levels. Check out Peoria's Running Page for ideas to start planning your next 5k! There are also supportive running groups like the Surprise Running Club that will motivate you to go the distance. color-fun-run-glendale The Color Fun Run is coming to the Westgate Entertainment District March 5, at 9:00 a.m. This family friendly event includes inflatable bounce houses, live DJs, and color stations.  After the race, enjoy a fun after race party, all benefiting the Phoenix Children’s Hospital. The very next day, at the very same location will be the 7th Annual Kiss Me I’m Irish Run starting at 7 a.m. You are able to participate in the 1K fun run, 4K, 8K, or half marathon.  After your run, celebrate with a cold beverage and participate in a virtual race. If you accomplish both races, you will be rewarded a very special Kiss Me I’m Irish Challenge Medal. Lastly, March 18 is the AZ Tour de Cure, benefiting the American Diabetes Association. Begin at Midwestern University and be a part of the ADA's largest fundraising event. Now that you are inspired to stay fit, start moving and try out these workouts with a friend or family member. From the Glendale Visitor’s Center to you, we hope that you continue and accomplish all of those New Year’s Resolutions.
