Guest Post from Valerie at Bears & More, on behalf of the Downtown Historic Business Community
How do you know summer is over and fall is coming? The temperatures are coming down. There's a change in the air. And even in the desert there are trees that loose their leaves. But in Historic Downtown Glendale, nothing says fall like the annual Front Porch Festival and Old Towne Marketplace. Plans have been in the works for this event now in it's 19th year. What makes this festival so different from all the others is that the shop owners come up with many creative make-and-takes and in Catlin Court, bring them outside on their beautiful lawns and porches for a wonderful experience for the guests. In Old Towne, you'll find surprises all along the way. Plan to start your day early and fuel up at Bitz-ee Mama's where they will have a special just for the day. Then, head right over to the Glendale Convention and Visitor Bureau for your map and list of activities. We don't like to spill all the beans, so here's just a little sample of what's planned for the day: At The Open Door, enjoy watching a cellist with her very young students which are delightful and visit with Kristi who will be doing watercolor painting demonstrations. The Country Maiden is hosting world renowned artist Billy Jacobs for the day. Make-and-takes for adults include learning to make fabulous bows at Glendale Flowers and a bookmark at It's Vintage Charm. For the younger set, make an ice cream cone bird feeder at Papa Ed's Ice Cream Parlor, paint a pet rock at Bears & More and meet a K-9 police team. Vendors and a wide variety of demonstrations at Vintage Green Old Town Treasures, 2 Share Gift Foundation, and Blue House Boutique where you'll also find a brand new scent bar and Grungy Gals celebrating their grand opening. Be sure to take time for lunch at one of the many wonderful eateries, enjoy some pumpkin treats from Shelley's Specialty Desserts (all kinds - even gluten free!), and end the day at Cottage Garden II listening to live music from The Come Back Buddy band while watching a fashion show. Historic Glendale is a downtown where you can have your cake and eat it too! With plenty of free parking, so many unique shops to visit and menus to taste, the 19th Annual Front Porch Festival is the icing on the cake. You won't find an experience like this anywhere else in the valley. Join us, Saturday, October 19th, 10 am - 4 pm.Author
