Seize the day! This Saturday, that is.
First celebrated in 2010, Small Business Saturday is a perfect time to Shift the Way You Shop from box stores and mass-produced items, to things that support artists, celebrate unique and creative businesses, and help your community. Through a study conducted by the originator of SBS, they found that more than 93% of Americans believe it's important to support local small businesses in their community. More than 73% make an effort to shop at small businesses in their community because they don't want them to go away.
So Friday - instead of waiting in endless lines and feeling impatient and irritated with everyone around you, stay at home, visit with friends, make a list of unique gifts you want to find, rest from the family crowds of Thanksgiving. And Saturday - pull on your boots and head out to your favorite local shops and support your community!
☼ Head to downtown Glendale for specialty items and antiques on your list, as well as the many home decor, jewelry, bears (yes bears!), and unique clothing on your list. Stay for dinner and into the evening for Glendale Glitters!
☼ Is a certain cowboy on your list requesting something special? Head over to Buckeye's Main Street and I reckon you can find it.
☼ Do you have some aspiring astronauts, zoologists, or just little kids (or adults!) interested in fun places to go? Gift admissions to Challenger Space Center, Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium and Safari might be just the ticket. Or, with a donation you could help under-served kids the chance to go to space camp.
☼ Head to the Wigwam's Farmer's Market and find a delicious local treat for a hostess with the mostest!
☼ On a grander scale, but still a local business, plan a getaway for your parents, a girls' or guys' weekend, or a family trip on the Verde Canyon Railroad!
Whatever you choose, you have the power. You control where your money goes. You decide with your wallet every day - make the small business choice!
