Crowd-of-Cardinals-Fans        There’s a sea of red throughout Glendale’s Sports and Entertainment District this summer and it’s not because of sunburns.  Football fans have painted Westgate Entertainment District cardinal red as the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals host their very popular training camp in Glendale this summer instead of Northern Arizona. Listen to the local news and you’ll hear Valley fans saying how they’ve enjoyed the shorter drive to Glendale to watch the team practice inside the air-conditioned University of Phoenix Stadium.  And it is pretty neat to see Westgate Entertainment District packed in the summer! So what else is there to do besides training camp?  Here are some of our thoughts:
  • Food and more food!  There are more than 20 restaurants in and around Westgate, from American cuisine to Italian, Mexican, Asian and barbeque.   Grab something before practice and then maybe dessert and cocktails after practice.
  • Coupons for Tanger Factory Outlets – Go to the Tanger website and print out coupons that offer 20% off at tons of Tanger retailers.  You can multi-task and get that back to school shopping done!
  • Make it a staycation – The four-diamond Renaissance Glendale Hotel and Spa offers a luxurious experience and is a 5 minute walk to the stadium.  But don’t forget there are dozens of other places to stay throughout Glendale from hotels right near the stadium, or even others located just north on the Loop 101 near Bell Road.
Finally, how much will it cost you to attend Cardinals training camp?  Nothing.  Admission is free and so is parking.   That’s something even Big Red will high-five with his seven-foot wings!  FYI – open practices end Thursday, August 22.
